Tawkon

Why We Made It

Environmental dangers are all around,
and you don’t need to be a health nut to actively avoid them.

tawkon encourages a healthy lifestyle for mobile device users by empowering you to take control of your exposure to radiation, just like you do with the food you eat and the air you breathe.

We believe that information is
power. In our case, we provide
information about power.

Our goal is not to keep you
from using your phone, and not
even to convince you to cut
down talk time. Quite the
opposite. We call ourselves
tawkon because with the right
guidance, you can minimize
radiation exposure and… talk
on, as you always have.

Radiation Concerns

Many credible assessments—including those conducted by the World Health Organization, the European Commission, and the Environmental Working Group have found strong enough evidence of potential risks from radiation exposure to recommend precautionary measures.
The recommended precautions broadly include measures for avoiding and reducing radiation exposure and have been addressed to the general population, but are especially relevant for young children (as their bodies are still growing and their tissues are more sensitive) and during pregnancy when radiation can affect development.

See what the World Health Organization has to say:

“WHO/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer associated with wireless phone use.”

(May 2011)
"We should consider what age we should give our children a mobile phone. We should also learn how to use phones correctly, in other words, hold it away from the body when talking and use earphones…we should consider limiting mobile phone use by children, because they are especially vulnerable to radiation…"
Siegal Sadetzki, Prof.
Gertner Institute Cancer and Radiation Epidemiology
Unit director (Globes, June 2011)
"We would like to be able to say that cell phones are safe, but we can’t. The most recent science, while not conclusive, raises serious issues about the cancer risk of cell phone use that must be addressed through further research. In the meantime, consumers can take steps to reduce exposure."
Olga Naidenko, Ph.D.
Environmental Working Group Senior Scientist (EWG, September 2009)
“In the present situation of scientific uncertainty...the statements that the use of mobile phones is safe, are premature… In my opinion the current safety standards are not sufficiently supported because of the very limited research on human volunteers, children, and on the effects of long-term exposures in humans."
Dariusz Leszcynski, PhD.
Researcher Professor for the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland (CNET, September 2009)

The Debate

There is a growing library of often contradictory articles, but all we know for absolute certain is that, well, no one knows for sure what cell phone radiation is doing to us and our kids.
Your best defense is knowledge. Have you done enough research to help you make the best decisions for yourself and your family?
