LG Nexus 4 SAR

This year there is a new phone in town that is getting a lot of buzz: The Google Nexus 4. This phone brings the promise of the next "it" gift for that special someone who wants a new mobile phone. Yes, we know everyone is talking about the iPhone 5, but look out for the LG/Google Nexus 4!

As always, we at tawkon want to take a look beyond the regular review points and focus on what our users are most concerned about: radiation.

tawkon is a free application that will alert you when radiation from your phone spikes and suggest ways on how to minimize your exposure.

All Phones in the United States and Europe must be qualified/certified by a regulatory body before being sold in the market. In the United States this body is the FCC and their maximum SAR value allowed is 1.6 W/kg.

After we analyzed the SAR (Specific Absorbtion Rate) iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note II, it was time for us to give the same attention to the new kid on the block - The Google Nexus 4.

Below is a list of the top ten most popular phones and their corresponding SAR ratings.

Position Device SAR (in W/Kg)
1 Samsung Galaxy Note II 0.171 W/Kg
2 Samsung Galaxy Nexus 0.303 W/Kg
3 Samsung Galaxy S3 0.342 W/Kg
4 Google/LG Nexus 4 0.550 W/Kg
5 HTC One S 0.687 W/Kg
6 Samsung Galaxy Ace 0.840 W/Kg
7 Apple iPhone 5 0.901 W/Kg
8 Blackberry Z10 0.970 W/Kg
9 Nokia Lumia 920 1.080 W/Kg
10 Sony Xperia S 1.370 W/Kg

As for the comparison with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, it is obvious LG Nexus 4 has a much lower maximum SAR.

The Nexus 4, according to standards-related measures of the FCC, has a SAR of 0.55 W / kg, which is reasonable, even if this value is greater than the latest models released by Samsung.

As you can see, Samsung as a company, occupies the top spots on the SAR table above and the Nexus 4 fits into this group as well. So if you are thinking about getting that special somebody a new mobile phone this holiday season, and want to make sure they stay safe and healthy, the Nexus 4 seems to be a good choice.
