HTC One Mini Radiation (SAR) Revealed

Earlier this month AT&T announced that it will start selling the HTC One mini on August 23rd for $99.99 with a two-year service agreement.

tawkon took the time to dig through the FCC filings and found the SAR ("Specific Absorbtion Rate" - the standard radiation measure for all mobile phones) value for the new HTC One Mini. This information has not been reported anywhere else.

The new phone has some interesting features:

  • 4.3-inch 720p HD display
  • Dual-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 4G LTE
  • 16GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM
  • 1,800 mAh battery
  • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

tawkon is a free application that will alert you when radiation from your phone spikes and suggest ways on how to minimize your exposure.

All Phones in the United States and Europe must be qualified/certified by a regulatory body before being sold in the market. In the United States this body is the FCC and their maximum SAR value allowed is 1.6 W/kg.

The much anticipated new mini version of the flagship phone from HTC is expected to be released tomorrow, August 23rd.

The SAR value for the HTC One Mini while not being the lowest SAR valued phone, it actually has a relatively lower SAR value than its larger cousin.

Position     Device   SAR (W/Kg)
1           Samsung Galaxy S3             0.34 W/Kg
2 Samsung Galaxy S4   0.45 W/Kg
3 Nokia Lumia 920   1.08 W/Kg
4 HTC One Mini   1.09 W/Kg
5 HTC One   1.26 W/Kg

As you can see the HTC One Mini falls in with some of the higher SAR valued phones in the market. While Samsung phones still remain the lowest SAR levels in the market, the new HTC One Mini is a marked improvement in SAR compared to its larger cousin the HTC One, which has an SAR of 1.26 W/Kg.

We all know that smartphones are a huge part of our lives and most of us are not willing to give them up. With tawkon for Android you don't have to. You can talk all you want and tawkon will alert you when radiation levels spike, and suggest ways to lessen your exposure. Now, keep talking!
