Radiation Info For New HTC First "Facebook Phone" Leaked

On Thursday April 4th Facebook will be making a huge announcement. Will we finally get to see the long rumored "Facebook Phone"?

All signs are pointing to yes. 

Recently Android Police picked up on some juicy info on the Build Specs of the proported phone, had been recently rumored to be called "HTC Myst," but is now being called "HTC First."

Having found the reported identification number of the device for the FCC, we went ahead and checked the fine print to see the aspect of the specs that is most important to us (and our users) - mobile radiation. 

All Phones in the United States and Europe must be qualified/certified by a regulatory body before being sold in the market. In the United States this body is the FCC and their maximum SAR value allowed is 1.6 W/Kg. 

Based on the official documents from the FCC, the SAR (head) for AT&T with 4G LTE will be 0.65 W/Kg. 

We compared the HTC First's SAR rating to the current phones in the market and found that it falls into our top 5 list of lowest emitting phones. The rating of 0.65 W/Kg is well under the limit of 1.6 W/Kg set by the FCC.

However, with this SAR rating, along with other phones that have been announced to much fanfare in recent weeks, there is still one device manufacturer that retains its title of making phones with the lowest radiation - Samsung. For more on Samsung phone's low SAR ratings, see this recent article.

The last few months in the mobile world have been very exciting , with a slew of new phones being announced by all the big players in the market. We decided to compare the new HTC First to these newly announced phones, and see where it stands in terms of radiation:

One thing that is very clear when looking at the newest phones in the market is that, on average, they seem to have higher SAR values than previous iterations. When compared to other phones announced in the last few months, the HTC First has an even lower SAR rating, particularly when looking at its fellow HTC phone, The HTC One. 

Are new phones, with their extended battery capacity and boosted specs, going to continue to have rising SAR values? At tawkon, we see this as a trend that is worth keeping an eye on.
